What You Need to Know
There are several things you should know when planning your next print project. Let me explain 3 of the most frequently used print methods.

  1. Digital printing – Great for small quantities and a fast turnaround time. This method uses modern technology like laser and ink-jet printing. Digital Printing is CMYK only and cannot be PMS matched. Digital printing is GREAT for variable data.

  2. Offset printing – Perfect for your marketing collateral and large quantities. This printing method uses metal plates and is the best method for economically producing large volumes of high quality prints. This method is used to produce projects such as magazines, brochures, newspapers, stationery and books.

  3. Large Format – Large format printing is digital printing on large surfaces. Think banners, signs, metal, wood, large paper, and anything with a foam core.

The Bells & Whistles

With both digital and offset printing, there are many different “bells and whistles” to choose between.

  • Paper weight – This can vary from the thickness of the inside pages of a book to the thickness of the outside cover of a paperback book.

  • Coatings – There are several different options when choosing a coating, but many projects use gloss or matte coating. There is even a UV coating option that will protect your printed piece from weather, which is great for postcards!

  • One or Multi-Sided – Depending on the project, you may need to print on one side or both. All of the printing methods offer printing on both sides.

  • Size – Because there are so many printing methods, the size of your project is entirely up to you!
